Rooflights are the weak point on a metal roof. From above they look like part of the roof; they are not built to take a person. A rooflight cover puts a galvanised mesh guard over the light so someone stepping on it, or falling against it, is held, while the light still gets through. It is the fixed alternative to netting underneath or a fence around every light, and it stays in place between visits.

Measure the rooflight, not the opening: length along the roof and width across it, plus how far it stands above the sheet. Flat or slightly raised lights take the standard cover; domed and upstand lights take the raised cover. A primary panel covers the first 2m and extension panels add length in 1m or 2m steps, so a 5m run is one primary and three extensions. Where the light opens for smoke venting or must stay unobstructed, use the guardrail kit instead. Tell us the roof profile so the fixings match it.
Rooflight covers and guardrail kits are supplied through UK distributors. Send the rooflight sizes, the count, the roof profile and a photograph to our technical team and we will confirm the panels and put you in touch with a stockist. Covers are usually specified alongside Defender edge protection or the metal roof edge protection system as part of one roof safety scheme. No. The panels are open mesh, so daylight still reaches the building. The frame can be colour coated so the cover is visible on the roof.
